  • A Russian man was sentenced to four years for assaulting a woman after Barron Trump alerted police.
  • Matvei Rumiantsev was convicted of assault and perverting the course of justice.
  • The incident was witnessed by Trump during a video call from the US.
  • The judge noted Rumiantsev's lack of empathy during the trial.
  • The victim feared for her life during the assault.

Matvei Rumiantsev, a 23-year-old Russian man, was sentenced to four years in prison for assaulting a woman in London, an incident witnessed on a video call by Barron Trump, the youngest son of former U.S. President Donald Trump. Rumiantsev was convicted at Snaresbrook Crown Court of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and perverting the course of justice, the latter stemming from his attempts to convince the victim to retract her allegations while he was incarcerated, according to BBC, CBS News, India Times, and Los Angeles Times.

The court proceedings revealed that Rumiantsev assaulted the unnamed victim on January 18, 2025, after becoming jealous of her connection with Barron Trump, whom she had met via social media. During the assault, Trump attempted to intervene, calling UK police from the United States and informing them, "I'm calling from the U.S., uh I just got a call from a girl, you know, she's getting beat up," which prompted a police response to the location of the incident, according to CBS News and Los Angeles Times.

During the sentencing, Justice Joel Bennathan remarked on Rumiantsev's attitude, labeling him as "totally unrepentant" and a "man given to jealousy." He highlighted Rumiantsev's ongoing attempts to blame the victim for the incident, reinforcing a lack of accountability, as emphasized in the trial, according to India Times and Los Angeles Times.

The victim, who was left anonymous by law, expressed in her impact statement that she felt "humiliated, afraid and ashamed," and stated that she feared for her life during the attack, which included Rumiantsev striking her multiple times, as reported by BBC and CBS News.
