In a tragic incident, at least seven Indian pilgrims were killed when a bus carrying them skidded off a mountain road and plunged into a ravine in central Nepal. The accident occurred Saturday night while the bus was returning from the renowned Manakamana Temple, a revered Hindu shrine where devotees seek blessings, according to Indiatimes, South China Morning Post, and Los Angeles Times.
The police reported that the bus was traveling downhill when it lost control while navigating a curve, rolling down approximately 150 meters before landing in a deep ravine. Among the injured were nine individuals, including seven other Indian pilgrims who received medical treatment at nearby hospitals, along with the Nepali bus driver and his assistant, as reported by Indiatimes, South China Morning Post, and Los Angeles Times.
Local residents quickly responded to the scene to assist rescuers in extracting the injured and transporting them for medical care. Authorities announced that autopsies would be conducted on the deceased before their bodies are returned to their families, highlighting ongoing concerns surrounding road safety in Nepal, where such accidents are not uncommon due to poorly maintained roads and challenging mountainous terrain, according to Indiatimes, South China Morning Post, and Los Angeles Times.
