  • The country condemns US-Israel military actions as aggressive and illegal.
  • Mojtaba Khamenei was appointed following the killing of his father in a US-Israeli strike.
  • North Korea's missile tests are highlighted alongside its supportive statements.
  • Increased hostilities in the region are reported due to ongoing military actions.

North Korea has publicly declared its support for the appointment of Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran's new supreme leader, following the recent killing of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in a US-Israeli military attack on February 28. Pyongyang reiterated its respect for the Iranian people's decision during a statement made by a spokesperson from the North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasizing, "we respect the rights and choice of the Iranian people to elect their supreme leader," according to Al Jazeera and India Times.

In response to the US-Israel military aggression, which North Korea described as "illegal," the spokesperson expressed serious concern, saying, "we express grave concern and strongly condemn the aggression of the United States and Israel, which... are undermining the foundations of regional peace and security." This condemnation comes amid reports indicating the conflict has intensified, resulting in significant casualties, with over 1,200 reported deaths in Iran due to the attacks, according to Anadolu Agency.

Alongside its political statements, North Korea has also conducted military tests, with leader Kim Jong Un overseeing the launch of strategic cruise missiles from the Choe Hyon destroyer. During these tests, Kim spoke about "maintaining and expanding a powerful and reliable nuclear war deterrent," reinforcing North Korea's military ambitions amidst the ongoing tensions, as reported by both Al Jazeera and India Times.

The geopolitical implications of these military actions are profound, contributing to an environment of intensified hostility within the Middle East as Iran retaliates against US interests and allies in the region, according to Anadolu Agency.
