  • Dr. Peter Attia resigns from CBS News following the release of emails with Jeffrey Epstein.
  • His emails included crude comments about women and admissions of friendship with Epstein.
  • Attia apologized for the content of the emails but denied any criminal involvement.

Dr. Peter Attia, a prominent figure in the field of longevity medicine, has stepped down as a contributor for CBS News shortly after his emails with the late Jeffrey Epstein came to light. A spokesperson for Attia stated that his role at CBS was "newly established and had not yet meaningfully begun," indicating that he wanted to prevent his involvement from becoming a distraction for the network's important work, as reported by Reuters and CBS News.

His name was found over 1,700 times in documents released by the U.S. Department of Justice regarding Epstein, leading to intense scrutiny. Attia apologized publicly for the "embarrassing, tasteless, and indefensible" nature of the emails, which included comments about women and expressed a closeness to Epstein. Nevertheless, he asserts that he has not engaged in any illegal activity, claiming he never flew on Epstein's plane or attended any illicit gatherings, according to BBC and Reuters.

This controversy follows Attia's previous appointment as a CBS News contributor in late January, part of a restructuring initiative by new editor-in-chief Bari Weiss. The backlash from his association with Epstein and the content of his emails has led to discontent among some of his followers, prompting him to clarify his relationship with Epstein and distance himself from past comments. Attia reiterated that his interactions with Epstein had "nothing to do" with Epstein's criminal activities, as noted by BBC and CBS News.
