The Trump Organization has signed a significant agreement to construct its inaugural skyscraper in Australia, projected to be worth A$1.5 billion (approximately $1.06 billion). The tower, set to rise to 91 storeys, will be located on the Gold Coast, a popular tourist destination in Queensland, Australia. Local developers, Altus Property Group, confirmed that the contract was finalized at Mar-a-Lago on February 14, 2023, giving the project a unique international flair, according to Reuters and India Times.
The towering structure, dubbed the Trump International Hotel & Tower, Gold Coast, is set to become the tallest building in Australia, eclipsing even notable structures like the Shard in London. The building is expected to include a six-star resort-hotel, around 270 luxury apartments, high-end retail spaces, and an exclusive beachfront beach club. "The prestige and allure of a world-class luxury brand" will be introduced in Australia, according to Eric Trump, the executive vice president of the Trump Organization, as noted by BBC.
According to Altus Property Group's CEO David Young, the project has been in the works for nearly 20 years, originally discussed with Ivanka Trump back in 2007. Young assures that the tower will be both Australian-owned and built, adhering to Trumpâs design specifications. Prices for apartments in this luxury development are expected to start at A$5 million, emphasizing its high-end market positioning, as reported by Reuters and India Times.
While the project is set to advance in design and engineering, it has encountered potential competition from a proposed 101-storey twin-tower structure on the same beach. Scheduled to begin construction later in 2023, the new project could challenge Trump Towerâs anticipated status as Australia's tallest skyscraper, highlighting a competitive real estate landscape in the region, as detailed by BBC.
