  • Indonesia has lifted its ban on Elon Musk's Grok AI chatbot.
  • The ban was initially implemented due to the chatbot's creation of sexualized images.
  • Access has resumed under strict supervision and conditional compliance.
  • X Corp has committed to measures aimed at preventing misuse of the service.
  • Senior officials confirm ongoing evaluations will take place to ensure compliance.

Indonesia has officially lifted its ban on Elon Musk's Grok, allowing the AI chatbot to resume operations after X Corp committed to improving compliance with local laws. This decision follows the government's suspension of Grok last month due to concerns about the creation of sexualized images without user consent, making Indonesia the first country to deny access to this AI tool, according to channelnewsasia and aa.

The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs indicated that the resumption of access would occur on a "conditional basis and under strict supervision." Senior ministry official Alexander Sabar stated that the normalization process follows a written commitment from X Corp outlining steps to improve service and prevent abuse, which would be regularly evaluated, according to indiatimes and aa.

Notably, Grok faced backlash due to its capability of generating explicit content, prompting Indonesia's authorities to act against it. Following the incident, Elon Musk emphasized that users creating illegal content would face the same repercussions as uploading illegal content directly, reinforcing X's commitment to removing offensive material and supporting law enforcement efforts, according to indiatimes.
