  • UNICEF delivers thousands of school kits to Gaza after a lengthy blockade.
  • The educational materials include pencils, exercise books, and recreational kits.
  • UNICEF aims to support around 336,000 school-aged children in Gaza.
  • 97% of schools in Gaza have sustained damage due to the ongoing conflict.
  • Over 20,000 children estimated dead during the recent assaults, according to UNICEF.

For the first time in two-and-a-half years, UNICEF has been able to deliver school kits containing essential learning materials into Gaza, following a prolonged blockade by Israeli authorities. This delivery includes thousands of kits, such as pencils, exercise books, and wooden cubes designed for play, which aim to support the educational needs of children in the enclave, according to Channel News Asia, Reuters, and South China Morning Post.

James Elder, a spokesperson for UNICEF, emphasized that the organization is also looking to bring in an additional 2,500 school kits shortly, as these materials are critical for continuing education in a region severely impacted by years of conflict. The humanitarian crisis has led to children attempting to study at night in makeshift tents without proper lighting, facing challenges such as malnutrition and lack of water, according to Channel News Asia, Reuters, and South China Morning Post.

UNICEF has formulated a plan to scale up educational support aimed at half of the school-age children in Gaza, estimated to be around 336,000. Given the extensive damage to school infrastructure during the conflict, many educational activities will be conducted in tents, revealing the depth of the humanitarian impact this region has experienced, according to Channel News Asia, Reuters, and South China Morning Post.

Reports indicate that at least 97% of schools in Gaza have sustained damage from the ongoing conflict, which has impeded educational opportunities for children in the area. UNICEF's initiatives aim to provide a semblance of normalcy for the young populace and to facilitate their learning despite the staggering adversities they face, as highlighted by Channel News Asia, Reuters, and South China Morning Post.
