Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that a U.S. security guarantee agreement is “100% ready” to be signed, following recent talks involving Ukraine, the U.S., and Russia. Zelenskyy expressed that Kyiv is awaiting a confirmation for the signing date, after which the document will be sent for ratification to both the U.S. Congress and the Ukrainian parliament, according to Reuters, Los Angeles Times, and Al Jazeera.
The talks, held in Abu Dhabi, marked a significant trilateral format where diplomats and military representatives convened to discuss Washington's framework for ending the ongoing conflict, which has persisted for nearly four years. Although no concrete deal resulted from these discussions, representatives from both Ukraine and Russia expressed openness to continued dialogue, with further meetings expected on February 1, according to Reuters and Los Angeles Times.
During the news conference in Vilnius, Zelenskyy underscored that the core issue remains Ukraine's territorial integrity, stating, "Our position regarding our territory must be respected." This perspective reflects the fundamental differences between Ukraine's and Russia's positions, particularly regarding territorial concessions in eastern regions claimed by Russia, as noted by Los Angeles Times and Al Jazeera.
