MIAMI (AP) — In a decisive action following a heated skirmish during a recent game, the NBA announced suspensions for Houston Rockets forward Amen Thompson and Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier. Thompson will miss two games, while Rozier faces a one-game suspension for their involvement in the altercation that erupted with just 35.7 seconds left on the clock in Miami’s 104-100 victory.
Alongside the suspensions, the league imposed a total of $145,000 in fines stemming from the incident. Houston head coach Ime Udoka was fined $50,000 for verbally confronting a game official, and players Jalen Green and Tyler Herro received fines of $35,000 and $25,000, respectively, for their roles in the fracas. Notably, Rockets guard Fred VanVleet was fined $35,000 for making reckless contact with the officiating crew prior to the altercation.
The controversial moment began when Herro leaned into Thompson, provoking a physical response that culminated in Thompson throwing him to the floor. This led to a quick series of ejections, which included VanVleet, Thompson, Rozier, Udoka, and assistants from both teams after multiple technical fouls were issued.
Both Thompson and Rozier are set to lose significant portions of their salaries during their suspensions—a total of $127,586 for Thompson and $143,242 for Rozier. This marks a turbulent moment in a game that saw Miami rally from a seven-point deficit late in the fourth quarter.
