Adeniyi Kayode, the driver involved in a crash that resulted in the deaths of two members of Anthony Joshua's team, has had his trial adjourned until February 25. The crash occurred on December 29 when their vehicle collided with a stationary truck on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, leading to the deaths of Joshua's personal trainer Latif Ayodele and strength coach Sina Ghami, both aged 36. Joshua was hospitalized following the accident but sustained only minor injuries, according to Africanews and BBC.
Kayode, 46, appeared in Sagamu Magistrates Court wearing a black hoodie and facing charges including dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, and driving without a valid license. He was granted bail set at approximately $3,500 following his initial arrest. The court ordered the duplication of the case file for legal scrutiny before proceeding further, according to India Times and BBC.
Details introduced in court indicated that Kayode's vehicle, a black Lexus SUV, collided with the back of a parked truck carrying soya beans. Joshua had switched seats just before the accident, which may have saved his life, as he had been sitting in a position that became fatal for his friends. Kayode has pleaded not guilty, claiming brake failure caused the incident. Terrestrial reports reveal that the crash site is notorious for accidents, raising concerns about road safety in Nigeria, according to India Times and BBC.
