  • Healy plans to continue her successful broadcasting career post-retirement.

Alyssa Healy, the captain of Australia's women's cricket team, has announced her retirement from all forms of cricket following the upcoming multi-format series against India. The 35-year-old wicketkeeper-batter has made significant contributions to the sport, amassing over 7,000 runs and achieving 275 dismissals across formats during her impressive 15-year career. Healy expressed mixed emotions about her decision, emphasizing, "I'm still passionate about playing for Australia, but I've somewhat lost that competitive edge that's kept me driven since the start" according to BBC, Reuters, and Al Jazeera.

Healy made her international debut in 2010 and has been part of two ODI World Cup victories as well as six T20 World Cup triumphs. In her statement, she reflected on her journey stating she will "genuinely miss [her] teammates, singing the team song and walking out to open the batting for Australia." Healy is expected to play her final matches in three one-day internationals and a single Test against India in February and March, according to BBC, Reuters, and Al Jazeera.

Healy's remarkable record includes 3,563 runs in ODIs, with seven centuries, and 3,054 runs in T20s, along with the record for most dismissals in T20 internationals at 126. Anthony Albanese, Australia’s Prime Minister, praised her as "a true legend of Australian cricket," commending her influence on the growth of women’s cricket. "Her impact and example off the field has been every bit as important," he noted, emphasizing the inspiration she has provided to a new generation, according to Reuters, and Al Jazeera.

Following her retirement from T20 internationals last year, Healy will leave a significant legacy behind, including her leadership during Australia's historic performance in the Ashes series. Todd Greenberg, Cricket Australia’s CEO, stated, "Alyssa is one of the all-time greats of the game" and has made an "immeasurable contribution" to cricket. Healy is also noted for her potential in broadcasting, having received acclaim for her commentary during recent series, which has endeared her to fans globally, according to BBC, Reuters, and Al Jazeera.
