The Norwegian Nobel Institute has declared that the Peace Prize cannot be transferred, following comments from Venezuelan opposition leader MarĂa Corina Machado, who suggested she might give her 2025 award to U.S. President Donald Trump. In a statement, the institute underlined that "once a Nobel Prize is announced, it cannot be revoked, shared, or transferred to others," emphasizing that "the decision is final and stands for all time," according to Reuters, CBS News, India Times, South China Morning Post, and Anadolu Agency.
In an interview on Fox News, Machado mentioned that awarding the prize to Trump would be a gesture of gratitude from the Venezuelan people for the U.S. operation that led to the capture of Nicolás Maduro. She asserted, "What he has done is historic. It's a huge step towards a democratic transition," according to CBS News and Anadolu Agency.
Trump expressed enthusiasm about the possibility of accepting the prize, stating, "I've heard that she wants to do that, that would be a great honor." He is expected to meet with Machado in Washington next week, as she plans to visit, according to Reuters and South China Morning Post.
Despite their exchanges, Trump has yet to support Machado as a leader in Venezuela, favoring acting President Delcy RodrĂguez instead. He characterized Machado as a “very nice woman” but noted that she lacks current support to govern, as discussed in CBS News and India Times.
