  • 14 people were injured in a stabbing and liquid spray attack at a rubber factory in Japan.
  • The attack occurred on Friday afternoon in Mishima, Shizuoka region.
  • The assailant has been apprehended, and the nature of injuries remains unclear.
  • Violent crime, including stabbings, is relatively rare in Japan.

On Friday, 14 individuals sustained injuries during a stabbing attack at a factory in central Japan, where an unspecified liquid was also sprayed. Emergency services received a call around 4:30 PM reporting that "five or six people were stabbed by someone," according to Tomoharu Sugiyama from the firefighting department in Mishima, Shizuoka region. All victims were reported to be transported for medical treatment following the attack, as stated by Channel News Asia, India Times, South China Morning Post, and CBS News.

Japanese media reports indicate that a suspect has been arrested at the scene on charges of attempted murder. Although the seriousness of the victims' injuries is still being assessed, reports from NHK suggest that all victims remain conscious. At least six of the injured individuals were taken to the hospital in ambulances, according to Channel News Asia, India Times, South China Morning Post, and CBS News.

The factory, operated by Yokohama Rubber Company, is involved in manufacturing tires for vehicles. Despite Japan's generally low rates of violent crime, the country has experienced occasional stabbings and other violent incidents, including the notorious assassination of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in 2022. Recent violent crimes in Japan include a death sentence for a man linked to a stabbing and shooting spree earlier this year, and a knife attack at a metro station, as detailed by Channel News Asia, India Times, South China Morning Post, and CBS News.
