Barry Manilow took to Instagram on December 22 to announce that he has been diagnosed with lung cancer, prompting him to cancel his upcoming concerts. The 82-year-old Grammy-winning singer explained that following a lengthy battle with bronchitis, his doctor ordered an MRI, which revealed a "cancerous spot" on his left lung that needs to be surgically removed. Luckily, his doctors believe the cancer has not spread, according to Reuters, Channel News Asia, and The Hill.
The singer expressed his intention to undergo surgery, stating, "So, that's it. No chemo. No radiation. Just chicken soup and 'I Love Lucy' reruns." He also reassured fans that he hopes to be back on stage by February, with rescheduled concert dates planned for late February through late April, as outlined in his Instagram post. "I'm very sorry that you have to change your plans," he commented on the concert cancellations, emphasizing his eagerness to return to performances at the Westgate Las Vegas, according to Channel News Asia and Reuters.
In his announcement, Manilow also urged others to prioritize their health, encouraging fans to get tested if they experience any health concerns, reflecting his own experience with early detection. His statement highlighted the significance of health checks, noting that he is grateful for the early discovery of his condition, which positioned him well for treatment, as mentioned in The Hill.
