Vince Zampella, the acclaimed co-creator of the video game franchise Call of Duty, died in a tragic car crash on Sunday in California, at the age of 55. His tragic demise was confirmed by Electronic Arts, which stated, “This is an unimaginable loss, and our hearts are with Vince's family, his loved ones, and all those touched by his work,” according to BBC.
The accident occurred along Angeles Crest Highway, where Zampella was reportedly driving his Ferrari when it veered off the road shortly after exiting a tunnel, crashing into a concrete barrier. The California Highway Patrol noted that Zampella was pronounced dead at the scene, while a passenger succumbed to injuries later at a hospital. Investigators are still determining the cause of the crash, according to Los Angeles Times and India Times.
Zampella's influential career in gaming began with the founding of Infinity Ward in 2002, where he helped create the highly successful Call of Duty franchise, known for redefining first-person shooters. Later, he co-founded Respawn Entertainment, producing blockbuster titles like Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
