Recently, the Philippines announced it will formally protest against the aggressive actions of the Chinese coast guard, which are described as "harassment and endangerment" of Filipino fishermen. These incidents occurred at Sabina Shoal, where three fishermen were injured, and two fishing vessels were damaged due to the water cannons used by Chinese ships, according to Reuters and Channel News Asia.

China's foreign ministry has responded by accusing the Philippines of staging "premeditated" provocations, claiming that Philippine vessels engaged in dangerous maneuvers. They allege that Filipino personnel threatened Chinese officers with knives, which Philippine officials have vehemently denied as "blatant lies," according to South China Morning Post and Channel News Asia.

Philippine Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro characterized the Chinese actions as "dangerous" and "inhumane," emphasizing that such actions are inconsistent with the responsibility of states to ensure human safety at sea.
