On December 15, 2025, the FBI announced the arrest of four individuals accused of plotting coordinated bomb attacks in Southern California on New Year’s Eve. The group, identified as members of the Turtle Island Liberation Front—described by U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi as a “far-left, pro-Palestine, anti-government, and anti-capitalist organization”—was allegedly preparing to execute the attacks at five separate locations, including targeting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and vehicles, according to Reuters and South China Morning Post.
The suspects, arrested near Twentynine Palms in the Mojave Desert, were reportedly testing improvised explosive devices (IEDs) prior to deploying them for the attacks. Surveillance footage captured their activities shortly before their arrest, where they were observed handling bomb-making materials, according to allegations presented by Channel News Asia and BBC.
During a Monday press conference, authorities detailed the group’s plans which included simultaneous detonations of bomb-filled backpacks at multiple logistics centers at midnight on New Year’s Eve. The plan was specified in a handwritten document titled “Operation Midnight Sun,” detailing various bomb-making procedures and potential targets, as noted by India Times and SFGate.
Evidence found at the arrest scene included bomb-making components such as PVC pipes, potassium nitrate, and sulfur powder. The procedure outlined in their plot indicated an attempt to obscure evidence and ensure the attacks could be carried out effectively, according to federal complaints shared by Le Monde and Channel News Asia.
The four suspects—Audrey Illeene Carroll, Zachary Aaron Page, Dante Gaffield, and Tina Lai—face charges including conspiracy and possession of destructive devices. They expressed intentions to escalate their violent actions, revealing discussions of future attacks targeting ICE agents, according to Anadolu Agency and India Times.
