  • A person of interest has been arrested following the shooting at Brown University, which left two dead.
  • The incident occurred during final exams in an engineering building, prompting a shelter-in-place order.
  • Confusion arose following a premature announcement about the suspect's arrest by President Trump.
  • The shooter reportedly targeted a classroom during the exam session.

A person of interest has been taken into custody overnight in connection with the shooting at Brown University, where at least two individuals were killed during an exam session. This shooting took place in the campus engineering building in Providence, Rhode Island, and led to an immediate shelter-in-place order, which has since been lifted, according to ABC News and CBS News.

The person of interest was apprehended at a hotel in Providence at 3:45 a.m., approximately 13 hours after President Trump prematurely announced the arrest, which was later corrected, highlighting confusion surrounding the incident. Law enforcement officials labeled the individual a “person of interest” rather than a suspect, and details about the individual’s identity remain undisclosed, as confirmed by India Times and ABC News.

At the time of the shooting, a Principles of Economics final exam review session was ongoing, leading Professor Rachel Friedberg to confirm the setting of the shooting. Surveillance footage shows the suspect, dressed in black, walking away from the scene, but it remains unclear if they are affiliated with the university, according to CBS News and India Times.
