  • Bruna Ferreira, linked to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, released from ICE custody.
  • Ferreira was detained and granted $1,500 bond during a court ruling.
  • Conflicting narratives emerge regarding her immigration status and family connections.

Bruna Ferreira, the mother of White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt's nephew, has been ordered released from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody after an immigration judge granted her a $1,500 bond on Monday. Ferreira, a Brazilian national, was arrested by ICE agents in Revere, Massachusetts, while driving to pick up her 11-year-old son in New Hampshire. Ferreira's lawyer, Todd Pomerleau, contended that she posed neither a danger nor a flight risk, which led to the government waiving any further appeals against her release, according to The Hill and ABC News.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has characterized Ferreira as a "criminal illegal alien" with a prior arrest for battery and an overstayed visa. In court filings and through her attorney, Ferreira has disputed these claims, stating she entered the U.S. legally as a child and has sought legal status through DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals). Ferreira emphasized her commitment to her family, revealing that she selected Leavitt to be her son's godmother years ago, despite distancing efforts from the White House under current scrutiny, according to Al Jazeera and The Hill.

Following her release, Ferreira will be required to attend periodic check-ins with ICE, a condition mandated by the DHS. Leavitt has reportedly attempted to distance herself from Ferreira, asserting that they have not communicated for several years, while Pomerleau maintains that Ferreira's family presence in the United States should not be politicized. He stated, "Why they're creating this narrative is beyond my wildest imagination," underscoring Ferreira's deep familial ties to both Leavitt and her son, according to ABC News, Al Jazeera, and The Hill.
