New Zealand police have successfully recovered a diamond-encrusted Fabergé egg valued at NZ$33,000 (approximately $19,000) that was swallowed by a 32-year-old man suspected of stealing it from a jewelry store. The pendant, inspired by the James Bond film "Octopussy," was retrieved after a six-day wait during which police continuously monitored the suspect, ensuring his health and safety, according to BBC and South China Morning Post.
The suspect was arrested on November 28 inside Partridge Jewelers in Auckland shortly after allegedly swallowing the valuable item. Following his arrest, he was charged with theft but did not enter a plea during his initial court appearance. He is scheduled to reappear in court, where he will continue to face charges related to other thefts, including stealing an iPad and items from a private residence, as reported by CBS News and South China Morning Post.
Police confirmed that the pendant was recovered "naturally," with no medical intervention required. The unique egg features an intricate design with blue sapphires and white diamonds, and opens to reveal an 18-carat gold octopus, consistent with the narrative of the film from which it derived its inspiration, as stated by BBC, South China Morning Post, and CBS News.
