  • Samsung introduces the Galaxy Z TriFold, its first multi-folding smartphone.
  • The device features a 10-inch display and advanced multitasking capabilities.
  • Expected market launch includes South Korea, China, and Singapore by year-end.
  • Industry competition set to increase with rivals like Huawei and Apple entering the foldable space.

Samsung Electronics launched its first multi-folding smartphone, the Galaxy Z TriFold, on December 2, 2025, aiming to enhance its market position amid intensifying competition. The device unfolds into a 10-inch (253.1-mm) display with a three-panel design, making it approximately 25% larger than the Galaxy Z Fold 7 model. Priced at around 3.59 million won (US$2,440), it targets a niche segment of customers who specifically desire foldable technology, rather than focusing on volume sales, according to Reuters and South China Morning Post.

The Galaxy Z TriFold features Samsung's largest battery ever in its flagship series and comes equipped with fast-charging capabilities, allowing it to reach 50% charge in just 30 minutes. The device will officially launch in South Korea on December 12, with planned releases in China, Singapore, and the UAE soon after, highlighting Samsung's strategy to expand rapidly in the foldable segment, according to India Times and Channel News Asia.

The device's design includes two hinges facilitating a tri-fold mechanism, while it also sports a 6.5-inch cover screen. Powering the smartphone is a customized Snapdragon 8 Elite processor alongside a substantial 5,600mAh battery, with performance options featuring up to 16GB RAM and storage variants of 512GB or 1TB, according to India Times.

Experts believe that while the TriFold is an innovative venture, it may serve more as a demonstration of new technology rather than a high-volume product. Analysts from NH Investment & Securities expressed concerns over potential durability issues and the overall market response to this first-generation product, as the foldable smartphone market is still forecasted to remain a niche sector, projected to comprise less than 2% of total smartphone sales this year, according to Reuters, South China Morning Post, and Channel News Asia.

Competition in the foldable market is anticipated to intensify, particularly with Huawei's recent launch of the industry's first three-way folding phone and Apple's expected entry next year. Amid these developments, market analysts maintain that high pricing and manufacturing hurdles may impede future growth, despite Samsung's current dominance in foldable shipments, which cheered to 64% market share in Q3 of this year, according to India Times and Channel News Asia.
