Four people were killed and 10 wounded during a shooting at a child's birthday party in a banquet hall in Stockton, California, shortly before 6 p.m. on Saturday. The victims included both children and adults, with ages reported as young as eight, according to India Times, SFGate, and Reuters.
Witnesses report a chaotic scene as deputies responded to the location, where possibly between 100 and 150 attendees were present. Heather Brent, a spokesperson for the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, indicated early signs suggest the attack may have been targeted, although the possible motive remains under investigation, reported SFGate and Reuters.
Stockton's Vice Mayor Jason Lee expressed his devastation over the incident, emphasizing that “a birthday party should never be a place where families fear for their lives.” Governor Gavin Newsom’s office is monitoring the situation, with calls for any witnesses or individuals with information to come forward, according to Channel News Asia and LA Times.
As of now, the investigation continues with no suspects identified, and the authorities have not ruled out the possibility of multiple shooters being involved in this tragic event, reports EURONEWS and The Hill.
