A suspect accused of ransacking Acting U.S. Attorney for New Jersey Alina Habba's office is now in custody, as confirmed by U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi. The individual reportedly attempted to enter Habba's office carrying a baseball bat but was turned away. He later returned sans the bat, damaged property in the waiting area, and subsequently fled the scene. Bondi stated, "No one will get away with threatening or intimidating our great US Attorneys or the destruction of their offices," highlighting the federal authorities' commitment to addressing such incidents, according to CBS News and BBC.
FBI Director Kash Patel affirmed that the arrest of the suspect, identified as Keith Michael Lisa, 51, signifies the coordinated efforts of federal law enforcement. The incident raises serious concerns as it reflects attempts to intimidate law enforcement officials. “Threats against our U.S. Attorneys aren’t just attacks on individuals, they’re attacks on the rule of law,” Patel noted. Bondi had previously announced a $25,000 reward for information leading to the capture of Lisa, according to The Hill and BBC.
Habba, who has been serving as New Jersey's top federal prosecutor since her appointment, expressed gratitude to federal partners for their swift response. In her social media announcement, she said, “We got him,” emphasizing that her office will not tolerate intimidation attempts. The attack occurred amid ongoing legal challenges regarding her capacity to serve in the interim role following a federal ruling questioning her confirmation status, according to CBS News and The Hill.
