A 65-year-old man tragically died after slipping off the edge of the Grand Canyon, falling more than 100 feet on November 7, 2025. The incident occurred at Guano Point, located on the canyon's west rim, and was reported by the Mohave County Sheriff's Office, who responded to assist the Hualapai Nation. Search and rescue teams worked tirelessly to recover the man, whose body was located on a rock pile approximately 130 feet below the edge, according to ABC News and CBS News.
The sheriff's office indicated that rescue personnel utilized a technical rope system to retrieve the man's remains, which were subsequently transported to the Mohave County Medical Examiner's Office. The fallen man was not publicly identified, but his family has been notified, as reported by both CBS News and SFGate.
Guano Point is recognized for its dramatic views and is a popular site among visitors. However, it has a railingless trail known as the Highpoint Hike, which raises safety concerns. Data indicates that between 2007 and 2024, there have been numerous fatalities at the Grand Canyon, with 26 resulting from falls, according to information collected from CBS News and SFGate.
