In a dramatic sprint at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, McLaren's Lando Norris emerged victorious, increasing his championship lead to nine points after teammate Oscar Piastri crashed out. Piastri lost control at Turn 3 on lap six, colliding with the barriers, which caused the race to pause with a red flag that lasted 22 minutes while repairs were made, according to Reuters, BBC, and Times of India.
Piastri's day worsened as he was running third before his crash, contributing to his struggle to keep pace with Norris in the title race. "The kerb at Turn 3 was unforgiving," noted McLaren's team boss Andrea Stella, highlighting the treacherous conditions that caught several drivers off guard, including Sauber’s Nico Hulkenberg and Alpine’s Franco Colapinto, who also spun out shortly after, according to Times of India.
Following the restart, Norris successfully held off challenges from Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli and finished the race strong, securing his position for the full race ahead, while the performance of other contenders like George Russell and Charles Leclerc added further layers of competition, according to BBC and BBC.
