  • A mass stabbing on a London-bound train from Doncaster has left ten people injured.
  • Two suspects were arrested, with one now confirmed as the main suspect.
  • Eyewitnesses reported a chaotic scene, with passengers initially mistaking the incident for a Halloween prank.
  • The attack prompted a rapid response from law enforcement and emergency services.
  • The investigation continues, ruled out as a terrorism-related incident by authorities.

A mass stabbing occurred on a train from Doncaster to London shortly after 7:39 PM on Saturday, leaving ten passengers injured, nine of whom are reported to have life-threatening injuries. The train was forced to stop at Huntingdon station in Cambridgeshire, where armed police quickly boarded the train and arrested two individuals, both British nationals in their 30s, according to BBC and India Times.

The suspect, now confirmed as a 32-year-old man, is believed to have attacked passengers shortly after the train left Peterborough. Eyewitness accounts detail extreme panic among travelers, with one passenger eventually realizing the severity of the situation when finding blood smeared on his clothing. “Run, run, there’s a guy literally stabbing everyone,” shouted a passenger, causing chaos throughout the train, according to Independent and Independent.

As the situation escalated, heroic actions were reported from both passengers and a member of the train staff who tried to intervene and protect others. This individual remains in critical condition, labeled a hero for their life-saving efforts. Eyewitnesses recounted scenes of people barricading themselves in carriages and trying to shield themselves from the assailant with whatever they could find, including a bottle of whiskey, according to Independent and BBC.

British Transport Police emphasized that they believe there is “nothing to suggest” a terrorism motive behind the attack, although a counter-terrorism unit is involved to assist with the ongoing investigation. This statement follows an initial emergency response code being declared to address the mass casualty incident, which was later revoked as the situation was assessed to be unrelated to terrorism, as reported by Independent and BBC.

The train service was significantly disrupted following the stabbing, with LNER advising passengers to avoid travel the following day due to the incident's aftermath and ongoing inquiries. Passengers affected were eligible for refunds or the use of similar services on subsequent days, according to BBC and India Times.
