On Monday evening, Hamas handed over the remains of another Israeli hostage to the Red Cross, as confirmed by the Israeli military. The transfer was part of a ceasefire agreement brokered by the US, aimed at easing ongoing hostilities in the region. Hamas previously released 20 living hostages and 12 remains under the initial phase of the ceasefire that began on October 10. Currently, 13 remains have been returned, with 28 total pledged to be handed back. In exchange, Israel has released approximately 250 Palestinian prisoners BBC and Le Monde.
Despite the ceasefire, violence has continued. On Monday, four Palestinians were reported killed by Israeli gunfire during separate incidents in Gaza City. This follows accusations from Israel that Hamas violated the truce, leading to retaliatory strikes on Hamas positions BBC and Le Monde.
