Three Qatari diplomats, identified as Saud bin Thamer Al Thani, Abdullah Al-Ghanem Al-Khayarin, and Hassan Jaber Al-Jaber, were tragically killed in a car crash near the Red Sea resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. Two other officials were injured and are currently receiving medical treatment at Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital, according to Reuters and TRT.
The accident occurred early on Sunday as the diplomats were traveling on a main road in South Sinai, approximately 50 kilometers from Sharm El-Sheikh. Reports suggest the crash may have been caused by a steering wheel malfunction, as stated by Egyptian media and AA.
This tragic event unfolded just before an international summit scheduled to take place on Monday, co-chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and U.S. President Donald Trump. The summit is aimed at finalizing a Gaza ceasefire agreement, enhancing regional stability efforts, and fostering peace, as detailed by India Times and Al Jazeera.
The Qatari embassy has expressed its condolences and confirmed that the bodies, along with the injured, will be transported back to Doha later on Sunday. They thanked Egyptian authorities for their cooperation in this unfortunate incident, in line with statements made by AA and TRT.
