  • The Global Sumud Flotilla is now approximately 121 nautical miles from Gaza.
  • Increased Israeli naval presence and drone activity heighten risks for the flotilla.
  • The flotilla organizers stress the need for international attention and protection.

The Global Sumud Flotilla, composed of over 50 ships, is currently about 121 nautical miles (225 kilometers) from Gaza, preparing to enter what is deemed a high-risk area due to impending Israeli interception. Activists reported that unidentified vessels approached their boats prior to dawn, prompting concerns for their safety as they near the zone where previous flotillas have faced attacks, including from drones and naval vessels, according to AA and Reuters.

As they approach Gaza, reports indicate the presence of Israeli military vessels in close proximity, performing maneuvers that endanger the flotilla's communication systems. A separate report detailed how an Israeli Navy vessel came within mere feet of the lead ship, creating significant caution among the activists onboard, as mentioned in AA and TRT Global.

The flotilla organizers have issued urgent calls for global attention, specifically stating, “Our safety depends on the world watching,” as they face imminent interception. They have mobilized support from international activists and emphasized that any aggression against the flotilla constitutes an act against Palestine, according to AA and TRT Global.

This humanitarian mission of the Global Sumud Flotilla, loaded with essential medical supplies and activists from various countries, has highlighted the dire situation in Gaza, which has been under Israeli blockade for nearly 18 years. The flotilla aims to challenge this blockade, which has escalated since March 2023, as nearly 66,000 Palestinians have reportedly perished due to continuous bombing and deprivation of aid, according to AA and AA.
