Anibal Hernandez Santana, a 64-year-old man from Sacramento, has been charged with multiple firearms offenses after firing several bullets into the front lobby of ABC affiliate KXTV on September 19. Federal authorities reported that he left handwritten notes in his vehicle threatening several officials associated with the Trump administration, indicating a potential political motive behind the attack, according to ABC News, Los Angeles Times, and India Times.
Investigations revealed that Hernandez Santana fired four shots at the ABC station, but fortunately, no injuries were reported as employees were present during the incident. A federal complaint detailed his note, which read, “For hiding Epstein & ignoring red flags,” and called out FBI Director Kash Patel, Deputy Director Dan Bongino, and Attorney General Pam Bondi as "next" on his list, according to ABC News and Los Angeles Times.
Upon searching Hernandez Santana's vehicle, police found not only the threatening note but also a planner that included the message “Do the Next Scary Thing,” noted for the date of the shooting, reinforcing suspicions about his intentions. Federal prosecutors characterized the shooting as an attack on media and community safety, stressing that it appeared politically motivated given recent national events, including protests related to comments directed at conservative figures, according to ABC News, Los Angeles Times, and India Times.
Hernandez Santana was originally booked on state charges but subsequently taken into federal custody for allegedly discharging a firearm within a school zone, which is a federal offense. In addition to this, Sacramento District Attorney Thien Ho emphasized that using firearms in such a manner is unacceptable, indicating a commitment to pursuing the case vigorously, according to ABC News, Los Angeles Times, and India Times.
