Walt Disney announced it will raise the prices for its Disney+ streaming services beginning October 21. The ad-supported plan will increase by $2 to $11.99 per month, while the ad-free premium tier will rise by $3 to $18.99. In addition, annual premium subscriptions will jump by $30 to $189.99, according to Reuters.
Subscription bundles that include Disney+ with Hulu and ESPN+ will also see increased rates. For example, a bundled plan with ads will rise to $12.99, compared to the previous price of $10.99. This price increase comes amid a competitive environment where streaming services like Netflix and Peacock have also hiked their costs recently, as reported by Business Insider and CBS News.
The price hike is part of Disney's broader strategy to boost profits from its digital platforms, following a history of price increases since Disney+ launched in 2019. Increasing consumer preference for streaming has led Disney to adjust its pricing annually, culminating in this sustained trend of hikes, according to The Hill and CBS News.
