A significant cyberattack has disrupted operations at major European airports, including Heathrow, Brussels, and Berlin, affecting flight schedules and causing widespread delays and cancellations. The attack began late Friday, impacting check-in and boarding systems provided by Channel News Asia, India Times, Jakarta Post, SCMP, and AA.
The hack rendered automated check-in systems inoperable, forcing airports to revert to manual operations which significantly slowed processing times. Brussels Airport confirmed at least 45 cancellations and warned of substantial delays, while Berlin and Heathrow also faced operational challenges. Collins Aerospace, the provider of the affected systems, stated that it was "actively working" to resolve the issue, according to Dawn, India Times, SCMP, and Le Monde.
As the impact of the attack spread, reports indicated a 600% increase in cyberattacks within the aviation sector over the past year. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, with Brussels Airport advising passengers to verify their flight status before traveling, according to BBC, Reuters, and Reuters.
