House Oversight Committee Withdraws Subpoena for Robert Mueller Due to Health Issues

Credited from: THEHILL

  • The House Oversight Committee has withdrawn its subpoena for Robert Mueller.
  • Health issues, specifically Parkinson's disease, prevent him from testifying.
  • Mueller served as FBI director and special counsel in significant investigations.

The House Oversight Committee has officially withdrawn its subpoena for former FBI Director Robert Mueller. The decision came after the committee learned of Mueller's health issues that prevent him from being able to testify. "We've learned that Mr. Mueller has health issues that preclude him from being able to testify," a committee spokesperson informed the press regarding the allegations surrounding Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender, according to ABC News and CBS News.

The New York Times has reported that Robert Mueller, 81, was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in the summer of 2021. His family has stated this illness has significantly affected his ability to speak, which further contributes to his inability to appear before Congress, as previously required by the committee's subpoena, according to Los Angeles Times and HuffPost.

Mueller served as the FBI director from 2001 to 2013 and was also appointed as special counsel to investigate Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. His handling of the Epstein case has come under scrutiny due to previous agreements made during investigations, which allowed Epstein to plead guilty to lesser charges. This has led to renewed calls for transparency in handling such sensitive cases, according to The Hill.
