  • Mark Teixeira announces candidacy for Congress in Texas' 21st District.
  • Teixeira aims to uphold conservative principles and support Trump's agenda.
  • He is running for a seat previously held by Rep. Chip Roy.

Former Major League Baseball player Mark Teixeira has officially announced his run for Congress in Texas, targeting the 21st District which includes areas around San Antonio and Austin. Teixeira stated, “As a proud Texan and lifelong conservative who loves our country, I’m ready to fight for the principles that make Texas strong and America exceptional,” highlighting his commitment to address issues important to Texas families and support President Trump's “America First agenda,” according to ABC News and HuffPost.

Teixeira, who played for teams such as the Texas Rangers and the New York Yankees, previously retired in 2016 after a remarkable career, which included three All-Star selections and a World Series title with the Yankees. His intention to enter politics marks his first campaign for office, following the decision of incumbent Rep. Chip Roy not to seek reelection while pursuing a position as Texas Attorney General, according to Los Angeles Times.

As part of his campaign platform, Teixeira emphasized key issues such as securing the border and opposing what he termed “radical woke indoctrination.” The 21st Congressional District, known for its strong conservative leaning, already has another contender, Daniel Betts, indicating a competitive primary ahead, reports HuffPost and ABC News.

Despite the competitive landscape, Teixeira's conservative message aims to resonate with GOP voters in a district that Chip Roy previously won by a significant margin. “It takes teamwork to win, and I’m ready to help,” he reiterated, reinforcing his commitment to conservative values that drive his campaign, according to Los Angeles Times and HuffPost.
