Grammy-winning musician Lil Nas X, whose legal name is Montero Lamar Hill, was charged with four felonies following an incident in Los Angeles where police say he assaulted them while walking naked down Ventura Boulevard. The charges include three counts of battery with injury on a police officer and one count of resisting an executive officer, according to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office. He was initially booked on suspicion of a misdemeanor obstructing an officer before the charges were escalated to felonies, which could lead to more than 10 years in prison upon conviction, as reported by HuffPost and SFGate.
Witnesses reported that Lil Nas X was seen wandering the streets partially naked before he confronted police officers, leading to his arrest shortly before 6 a.m. on Friday. He was taken to a hospital under suspicion of a possible overdose after officers responded to the scene, according to reports by BBC and South China Morning Post.
Following his arraignment, which occurred on Monday, Lil Nas X pleaded not guilty to the charges. His bail was set at $75,000, conditional upon his attendance in an outpatient drug rehabilitation program, since authorities suspected drug use at the time of the incident, as stated by Newsweek and Reuters.
In a response to the incident, Lil Nas X expressed on social media that the past few days were "fucking terrifying" but he assured fans that he would be alright. His attorney described this episode as "an aberration in an otherwise productive life," highlighting the challenges the artist has faced, including health issues in the past, as noted in reports from HuffPost and BBC.
