Parents of Missing Baby Emmanuel Haro Arrested on Murder Charges

Credited from: LATIMES

  • Emmanuel Haro's parents arrested on suspicion of murder after inconsistencies in their accounts.
  • Police believe the baby is deceased; search for remains ongoing.
  • The couple reported the baby missing, claiming abduction in Yucaipa.

The parents of 7-month-old Emmanuel Haro, Jake and Rebecca Haro, were arrested Friday morning on suspicion of murder, following discrepancies in the mother's account of their child’s disappearance. Authorities have begun to believe that the child is deceased, marking a grim development after his reported abduction on August 14 outside a Big 5 store in Yucaipa, California, where Rebecca claimed she had been attacked while changing Emmanuel's diaper, according to ABC News, LA Times, and Newsweek.

Since his disappearance, investigators noted multiple inconsistencies in the statements given by Rebecca Haro, which led to their increased scrutiny of the couple. After the initial police reports, the authorities executed search warrants at the family’s home in Cabazon, conducting thorough searches with K-9 units and forensic teams. They took possession of the couple's electronic devices, including phones and two iPads, as part of their ongoing investigation, India Times and SFGate report.

The sheriff's office has indicated that they do not expect any other suspects to be involved and believe the abduction story presented by Rebecca to be fabricated. Following their arrest, both parents were booked into a Riverside County jail and are currently being held without bail, as stated by HuffPost and LA Times.

While the public continues to search for Emmanuel, locals have expressed outrage and confusion regarding the parents' actions throughout this investigation. Many are holding vigils and demanding answers about the child’s fate, urging for a thorough investigation even as authorities confirm they are pursuing all leads to recover the child’s remains, according to Newsweek, LA Times, and India Times.
