Japanese pop idol Kenshin Kamimura was convicted of indecent assault on an interpreter during a fan event in Hong Kong, with the West Kowloon Court ruling on August 13 that his actions constituted serious misconduct. The 26-year-old received a fine of HK$15,000 (approximately US$1,923) for the incident, which took place at Ming Kee Restaurant after a fan meeting on March 1, 2023, according to SCMP, Reuters, and Channel News Asia.
The court heard that Kamimura, who formerly belonged to the boy band One N' Only, engaged in inappropriate touching, which included repeatedly brushing and patting the victim's thigh. The presiding magistrate, Peter Yu, emphasized that Kamimura’s behavior displayed a lack of respect for women and suggested an underlying sexual motive, stating, "Such behaviour should be condemned," as reported by Reuters and Channel News Asia.
During the trial, the victim testified that Kamimura harassed her at the dinner and suggested they go to a bathroom together, to which she firmly responded, “If you want to go, you can go by yourself.” Despite her clear refusals, he continued to pursue her, further displaying his inappropriate behavior, as detailed in multiple reports, including SCMP, Reuters, and Channel News Asia.
