Sweden's Mondo Duplantis broke his own pole vault world record with a clearance of 6.29 metres at the Hungarian Grand Prix meeting in Budapest on August 12, marking the 13th time he has achieved this feat. Duplantis improved on his previous record by one centimetre, overtaking his earlier mark of 6.28m set in Stockholm in June, according to Reuters.
During the competition, Duplantis had a shaky start, missing his first attempt at 6.11m. Following Greece's Emmanouil Karalis' retirement after failing at the same height, Duplantis raised the bar to attempt another record. He initially struggled again but successfully cleared the height on his second attempt, much to the crowd's delight, reports Le Monde.
After his successful jump, Duplantis expressed his fondness for Hungary: "I love Hungary very much. The track is very good, I love the crowd, I would like to return, thank you," he said, highlighting his appreciation for the support. This achievement adds to a stellar career that includes first breaking the world record in 2020 with a clearance of 6.17m, according to Reuters and Dawn.
