Andrew Barber, a 39-year-old man lost in the wilderness of British Columbia, was rescued on August 8 after surviving for nine days. He was reported missing on July 31, near McLeese Lake, after his truck broke down in a remote area. Utilizing his skills, Barber built himself a shelter and relied on drinking pond water to stay hydrated, according to BBC and Newsweek.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) found Barber after spotting his abandoned truck on a forest service road. He had etched the word "HELP" onto a rock and created an "SOS" symbol in the mud to signal for assistance, demonstrating his resourcefulness during the ordeal. "We had been at this for nine days, and it was essentially like looking for a needle in a haystack," said Staff Sgt. Brad McKinnon, highlighting the challenging search conditions, according to CBS News and BBC.
