At a press conference, Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis detailed the suspect's background, identifying him as a white male in his 30s with “a mental health history” and expressing condolences to the victims' families, according to Al Jazeera and India Times. The three victims were found in the parking lot, with two pronounced dead at the scene and one later at a hospital.
The shooting occurred amid peak back-to-school shopping hours, raising panic among shoppers, according to TRT Global. Emergency responders treated one additional person for unrelated injuries at the scene. Austin Mayor Kirk Watson described the incident as a “sickening, cowardly act of gun violence,” emphasizing the emotional toll on the community.
