Three people were shot and wounded in New York's Times Square early Saturday morning, with victims including an 18-year-old female, a 19-year-old male, and a 65-year-old male, all reported to be in stable condition at a local hospital, according to Reuters and Dawn.

The shooting occurred around 1:20 a.m. ET following a verbal altercation related to one of the victims. A 17-year-old male is currently in custody as police continue their investigation, although no charges have yet been filed against him, according to SFGate and Dawn.

Following the shooting, New York City authorities reported that such incidents have decreased significantly this year, with a notable 23% reduction in gun violence since 2022, according to SFGate. However, the shooting raises ongoing concerns about public safety in high-profile tourist locations.
