Oscar-winning director Francis Ford Coppola was hospitalized in Rome for a scheduled non-emergency cardiac procedure on August 5, 2023. According to the European news agency ANSA, Coppola, who is 86 years old, was admitted to the Policlinico Tor Vergata hospital in the Italian capital to undergo the procedure with his cardiologist of over 30 years, Dr. Andrea Natale, and is reported to be doing well, according to Newsweek, Channel News Asia, and Reuters.

Coppola's spokesperson emphasized that the hospitalization was not an emergency, stating, "He went to the hospital in a car" for a procedure that he had planned for some time. The famed director is reported to have posted a photo on Instagram, relaxing and assuring fans: "I am well," which was confirmed by his representative, according to Channel News Asia and Reuters.

During his stay in Italy, Coppola was promoting his latest film, Megalopolis, a $120 million self-funded project about a visionary architect’s attempts to create a utopian community in a futuristic version of New York City.
