President Trump stated that Vice President JD Vance is the "most likely" heir to the MAGA movement during a recent news conference. He expressed confidence in Vance's capabilities, noting that "it's too early obviously to talk about it, but certainly he's doing a great job, and he would be probably favored at this point," according to The Hill, India Times, and CBS News.
In addition to Vance, Trump mentioned Secretary of State Marco Rubio as a potential ally in Republican leadership, saying, "I think Marco is also somebody that maybe would get together with JD in some form," reports Newsweek and TRT Global. This reflects a strategic positioning among party leaders as the 2028 election approaches.
Despite indicating Vance's potential, Trump also reiterated his own plans regarding a third term. He has stated he would "probably not" seek to run again, acknowledging the limitations imposed by the 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which bars presidents from serving more than two terms, according to The Hill, India Times, and Newsweek.
