Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America has confirmed that hackers accessed personal information of the majority of its 1.4 million customers during a cyber-attack on July 16, 2025. A "malicious threat actor" exploited a third-party cloud-based system to obtain personally identifiable data not just from customers, but also from financial professionals and select employees, according to reports from BBC, Reuters, CBS News, and India Times.
The breach was reported to the Maine Attorney General's office and purportedly did not involve direct access to Allianz Life's internal systems, which remain secure. Allianz Life has initiated contact with those affected by the breach and has begun an investigation into the incident to mitigate any further risks, as detailed in their statements to multiple news outlets including BBC and Reuters.
In light of the breach, the insurance firm is providing impacted individuals with 24 months of identity theft protection and credit monitoring. The data breach highlights the growing risks associated with cyber threats and the importance of robust cybersecurity measures, according to CBS News and India Times.
