Iran Resumes Nuclear Talks with E3 Amid Escalating Tensions

Credited from: TRTGLOBAL

  • Iran confirms nuclear talks with E3 countries set for July 25 in Istanbul.
  • Discussions are a response to recent military strikes by the US and Israel.
  • The E3 warns of potential sanctions if Iran does not comply with nuclear agreements.
  • Iran remains adamant that its nuclear ambitions are peaceful.
  • Previous negotiations were disrupted following US military actions against Iran.

Iran has confirmed that it will engage in fresh nuclear negotiations with the E3 (Britain, France, and Germany) on July 25 in Istanbul, marking the first diplomatic talks since recent US military strikes on its nuclear facilities. An Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson stated, "In response to the request of European countries, Iran has agreed to hold a new round of talks,” indicating a readiness to discuss its nuclear program under mounting international pressure to return to the negotiating table, according to Le Monde and Dawn.

The E3 has warned Iran that failure to engage in negotiations could lead to the reimposition of sanctions. A German diplomatic source emphasized the importance of preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, stating, “That is why Germany, France and the United Kingdom are continuing to work intensively in the E3 format to find a sustainable and verifiable diplomatic solution,” as reported by South China Morning Post and The Jakarta Post.

Following a wave of strikes that targeted Iranian military facilities, tensions were exacerbated when the US joined Israel in military actions against Iran. The last round of negotiations, prior to this announcement, was held just one day before US strikes occurred, as noted in various reports, including AA and TRT.

Amidst these developments, Iranian officials remain firm that their nuclear ambitions are for peaceful purposes. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated the need for a serious commitment from the US to seek a diplomatic solution, underscoring that military options have proven ineffective, according to Africa News and Dawn.

Additionally, talks are set to take place with Russia and China to coordinate support against potential sanctions from the West, as Iran continues to position itself diplomatically amid heightened scrutiny and allegations regarding its nuclear activities. Iranian officials claim that the European parties have neglected their obligations under the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, reported by AA and TRT.
