A vehicle rammed into a crowd of people waiting to enter a nightclub in East Hollywood early Saturday, injuring 30 individuals. According to Capt. Adam Van Gerpen, public information officer for the Los Angeles City Fire Department, victims were transported to local hospitals, with at least three in critical condition following the incident along Santa Monica Boulevard. An additional patient was discovered to have a gunshot wound at the scene, highlighting the chaotic situation that unfolded as people were struck by the vehicle, which also collided with a taco truck and a valet stand, according to HuffPost, NPR, and Le Monde.
Van Gerpen explained that the incident occurred as a line of predominantly female patrons was waiting to enter the location. Eyewitness reports describe that bystanders and club attendees rushed to assist victims before emergency crews arrived. "They were all standing in line going into a nightclub. There was a taco cart out there, so they were ... getting some food, waiting to go in," he said. This unfortunate event is currently under investigation by the LAPD, focusing on the circumstances surrounding the crash, according to HuffPost, NPR, and Le Monde.
