The Karnataka government has held the management of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) responsible for a deadly stampede that occurred during IPL victory celebrations on June 4. According to a report filed in court, RCB proceeded with a victory parade without proper consultation and permits from local authorities, which ultimately led to the tragic events. The report highlights that RCB and its partners made plans "without prior consultation with the police" and ignored established procedures for public gatherings, leading to the chaotic situation that caused 11 fatalities and over 50 injuries, as noted by Indiatimes and TRT World.

Authorities specified that RCB did not submit a "formal request" or provide sufficient details for the celebrations; therefore, the police denied the request for permission. Despite this, RCB continued to promote the event, including a video featuring cricketer Virat Kohli, which encouraged fans to join the parade, leading to a massive turnout that resulted in the stampede, according to Al Jazeera and TRT World.

The Karnataka government clarified that while it did not halt the celebrations, doing so abruptly might have incited more violence among the already gathered crowd. Following the incident, police detained several individuals associated with RCB, including executives and representatives of event partners, for failure to manage the situation adequately, as stated by Indiatimes and Al Jazeera.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the incident as "absolutely heartrending," and Virat Kohli voiced his grief, stating he was "at a loss for words" after the tragedy unfolded.
