  • Travis Decker is a fugitive accused of murdering his three daughters.
  • New police footage shows Decker days before the girls' disappearance.
  • Decker displayed nervous behavior during the police encounter.
  • Authorities continue to search for Decker and seek public assistance.
  • DNA evidence links Decker to the crime scene involving his daughters.

Newly released police footage shows Travis Decker interacting with an officer just days before he allegedly murdered his three daughters, Paityn, 9, Evelyn, 8, and Olivia, 5. The incident occurred on May 27, 2023, when Decker rear-ended another vehicle at a red light in Wenatchee, Washington. The video, which lasts nearly 20 minutes, captures Decker leaning against his white truck before shaking hands with the other driver and leaving the scene, although the audio is not available, according to CBS News, India Times, and ABC News.

Witnesses describe Decker as appearing "nervous and fidgety" during his interaction with the other driver, who claimed that Decker repeatedly asked him not to contact the police. Following the encounter, Decker was meant to return his daughters home after a planned visitation on May 30; however, they were found dead at a campground near Leavenworth, Washington, on June 2, leading to a manhunt that continues, according to India Times and ABC News.

Authorities have confirmed that DNA evidence found at the crime scene, which included bloody handprints on Decker's vehicle, matched his profile. Additionally, it was revealed that Decker has a history of mental health issues, as raised by his ex-wife, who noted that he was often living out of his truck and had been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder without any treatment, according to CBS News and India Times.

As the search for Decker continues, the Chelan County Sheriff's Office maintains that they are committed to pursuing credible leads. Despite the search slowing down, officials have not given up hope, with the U.S. Marshals Service offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to Decker's arrest. In a recent update, sheriff officials stated that Decker remains a danger to the public while at large, according to ABC News.
