Mahathir Mohamad, the former Prime Minister of Malaysia, was hospitalized due to fatigue, his office confirmed on Sunday. The fatigue followed a picnic celebration marking his 100th birthday, during which he reportedly cycled for an hour before feeling exhausted. He drove himself to the event, which also celebrated the 99th birthday of his wife, Hasmah Mohd Ali, a day earlier, according to Reuters and South China Morning Post.
His condition required observation at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur, where it was noted that he has a history of heart problems and has undergone bypass surgeries in the past. Mahathir's office indicated that he was expected to return home later that evening due to non-serious health concerns, according to Channel News Asia and Dawn.
Mahathir's son, Mokhzani Mahathir, commented on the situation, stating there were no serious health issues, attributing his father’s fatigue to tiredness from the previous night and a lack of good rest. Following his hospital stay, it was confirmed that he had been discharged from the hospital at 4:45 PM local time, and his return home was confirmed by Dawn and Reuters.
