Diogo Jota, a prominent player for Liverpool and Portugal, tragically died alongside his brother André Silva in a car crash on July 3. The accident shocked the football world, occurring less than two weeks after Jota's wedding. Spanish police investigations suggest that "everything points to a possible excessive speed beyond the road's speed limit" at the time of the crash, as noted by Spain's Civil Guard Channel News Asia and South China Morning Post.
Police analysis revealed that tyre marks were visible approximately 100 meters from the site of impact, indicating that Jota was indeed driving when the Lamborghini they were in experienced a suspected tyre blowout while overtaking on the A52 motorway in northwestern Spain BBC and Dawn. The vehicle ultimately veered off and burst into flames shortly after midnight.
The loss of Jota and Silva prompted widespread mourning, especially in their native Portugal, where political figures and football stars attended their funeral in Gondomar Reuters, Al Jazeera, and Africanews.
